Our Worship Services & Times
What might one expect at one of our services?
Worship for our congregation is the joyful and meditative response to God's gracious presence in our lives. Our worship services, held at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday, seek to get us in touch with God. We attempt to provide the balance between "spiritual space" and a sense of community many desire as the core of their worship experience.
In our classic New England sanctuary, one can hear a gifted chancel choir, youth and adult handbell choirs, and children's choir as they use music to add meaning to the worship service. There is also a fine 1700-pipe Moeller organ (newly digitalized), which greatly enhances all aspects of the worship life of the congregation. In additon, one will hear various instrumentalists share their gifts, whether on the piano or with brass, strings or woodwinds.
Our services generally include responsive readings, hymns, readings from scripture, a meditation that helps us relate scripture to our daily lives, and prayers (including the Lord's Prayer, in which we use the words "debts/debtors"). There is also a special time for children, after which the younger ones are welcome to go to a supervised childcare program for the remainder of the service (if they choose not to stay with their parents).
On the first Sunday of each month, the congregation participates in the sacrament of Communion. Children are invited to participate. The church practices open communion, which means that one does not have to be a member to participate.
On the third Sunday of each month, a Town Hall Meeting is held. Town Meetings give members a chance to be informed on what is happening in the church as well as to ask questions.
