Youth Music Program Overview
First Congregational Church, UCC is blessed with an active children's music program. Led by Youth Choir Director Cathy Bixby, about 20 children participate in the program during the course of a year. Cathy says, "We choose a wide variety of songs through the year so that the young children learn the traditional Bible songs, Carols, and Spirituals. As they get older they learn to sing in parts to teach them how to harmonize. While the children are a special part of our services, we also believe it's important to help them learn about music."
The youth music program features two primary elements:
Youth Choir - The Youth Choir is for 3rd through 8th graders. This dedicated group rehearses Wednesday evenings through the school year, and sings during the Sunday morning service once a month.
Tone Chimes - Two to four times a year a selected number of older children perform with tone chimes. They rehearse once a week for 4 weeks prior to a Sunday morning performance.
The Youth Music Program at First Congregational Church is open to all children, including non-members. Participants offer the full range of experience and talent levels.
